A most unusual beach, Clovelly is definitely the safest for swimming in Sydney. It is an extremely narrow, almost bay like beach, situated between two tall, 300m long headlands. The beach itself is only 70m wide with roughly 100m of sand behind it. Wave energy is absorbed by the two headlands – the gap is so narrow it almost appears that the beach is landlocked. The bay is very rocky however, with little or no surf, Clovelly is very safe for swimming.
The surf club is situated on the southern side, along the headland. Parking is available and a walkway extends the entire way around the beach, with some parkland. Seasonal lifeguards and surf patrols watch over the beach during the summer.
