• Throttle Return Device Trial Sydney Clubs

Dec 22, 2018 By Surf Live Saving Admin

As per memo emailed to Clubs 21/12/2018.
Further to the December Branch Council meeting where your club President was advised of the Trial which we will be conducting of a ‘Throttle Return device’ as a safety measure, this memo is to
provide Clubs Captains and your IRB Captains of the details.
As a result of safety issues around runaway IRB’s recently at some clubs, Sydney Branch is going to conduct a trial with clubs between now and 30th January 2019 of a throttle return plate device
which is in use within SLS UK and SLS NZ. This device has been approved by Tohatsu / Mercury for their motors in the UK and NZ, and Sydney Branch is speaking to the manufacturer in Australia.
The purpose of the trial is to gauge the operational limitations, potential benefits and any issues that throttle returns may create for our IRB operations. We strongly suggest testing to be done
outside of Patrol hours, and drivers be informed the device has been fitted.  An  instruction sheet has been provided to us by SLS NZ to guide Clubs through the easy installation of the device.
The Branch has distributed the device to all our Sydney clubs, as well as a device to Hunter, Northern Beaches and the Central Coast Directors of Lifesaving.
It would be appreciated if you could kindly provide me with your feedback of the device by 30th January 2019 via the branch office lifesaving@surflifesavingsydney.com.au
