U13 Junior Development Camp

Last weekend we held the annual SLS Sydney U13’s Development at Youthworks Port Hacking.  What a great camp it was! Getting back toward our pre-COVID numbers, with 73 kids, and extending the camp by adding the whole of the Friday, made a huge difference. As well as adding the extra day, we added bus pickups and drop offs at North Bondi and Maroubra as well as the traditional stop at Elouera, and we filled the bus for the first time in years!

With the extra day and some solid planning, we were able to fit many more activities and meaningful content into the camp and keep it all loads of fun for the kids. And from all reports it was a resounding success.

I must thank my wonderful dedicated team of fellow planners and facilitators:  Riley Porteous – Wanda, Sophie Burns – Elouera, Sarah Teitler – South Maroubra, Michelle Carter – Maroubra, and Rodd Sanchez – Cronulla. They were simply magnificent! As were the fantastic group of Minders, and of course the kids,  from all the attending clubs! It was truly a great crowd to work and have fun with!

Special thanks to the clubs Clovelly, Maroubra, Wanda, Cronulla and their crews for providing expertly operated IRB’s on the Sunday.

Extra special thanks to the Sydney Branch Support Operations Group and operator Louise Skjeime from Garie, for providing a superbly operated RWC on the Sunday morning.

And lastly extra special thanks to our guest speaker, SLSS Duty Officer Michael Bonnici  -Wanda, and UAV Pilot Stuart Jackson -Avoca, for addressing the kids and showing them their operational equipment, and to our fantastic Branch Partners, Betty’s Burgers for helping make all this happen!

We’re looking forward to the U11’s Camp in February 2023.
