SLS Sydney Junior Development Committee holds two major Development Camps each season. These cover one for the U13’s ) and one for the U11’s .  Approximately 100 Nippers attend each camp, supported by around 20 plus Minders (Parents) from their Clubs.

These camps are put on to assist in the on-going development of our Nippers into Junior Lifesavers. The camps deliver an awesome weekend where kids from the fifteen Clubs get to know each other and join together in a range of fun and challenging activities.

These cover the on-site activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, archery, dragon boating, canoeing and the very long water slide.

We also look at leadership and teamwork skills which are our major focus from Saturday pm to the end of the camp. On Sunday the main focus is lifesaving skills where we teach  CPR, IRB Rescue and Tube Rescue.

These activities culminate in the Development Camp Rescue Championships on Sunday afternoon, where our “young lifesavers in training” show us the skills they have learnt in SLS and on the weekend.

The weekend is supported by a range of speakers from the ranks of SLS and beyond, who present the range of opportunities available to people in SLS. These talks are presented from the perspective of the individual, the wider community and a national SLS perspective.

For the last four seasons all those young lifesavers who have been awarded our Branch Junior Lifesaver of the Year awards have come through the Junior  Development Program. These camps have a strong tradition in SLS Sydney and have been run continuously for over 25 years.
